Welcome the 800lb gorilla back to browser wars...

"Now that we're past the halfway point of 2010, it's starting to become apparent that the browser trends we've noted over the past several months are no longer holding. Sure, Safari and Opera are still slowly gaining share, but the three big guys are restless. Firefox has started declining, Chrome's growth spurt seems to have been put on hold, and Internet Explorer experienced gains for the second month in a row."

Mozilla evangelist: Apple demos harm the open web  (6/8/2010)
Apple steals a page from the MS playbook...

"Apple recently launched an HTML5 showcase on its official website with several demos that are intended to highlight some of the advanced Web development capabilities that are made available by emerging standards. The showcase has attracted criticism from standards advocates, however, because it pops up a message telling users that they will need to download Safari in order to view the demos."

Google StreetView cars sniffed your Wifi  (5/16/2010)
Yeah, I'd agree that it's a huge oversight, and admitting that they actually did actually commit this privacy faux pas after initially denying it and ducking the backlash that would have accompanied admitting it is not cool either...

"Google put up a blog post last month detailing exactly what kind of data its Street View cars collected in response to an inquiry from German lawmakers. At the time, Google said that it collects SSID information as well as the MAC addresses of WiFi routers it encounters along the Street View route. This is for use in Google's location-based services, like Skyhook Wireless' services that are widely used on mobile devices without GPS. The company said that it only uses information that is is accessible by anyone walking down the street with a WiFi-compatible device, and that it did not collect any kind of payload data related to those networks. It turns out that statement wasn't true. In a follow-up blog post on Friday afternoon, the company said it reviewed the data that Street View cars had collected and found that some "samples" of information users sent over their networks were indeed saved. As for why it happened, the company says it was essentially a huge oversight."
